Sada Chai is ideal for making chai in the authentic Indian style, unparalleled in its creamy, caramel character. 'Sada' means 'plain', referring to unblended black tea leaf that provides you with the option to add your own choice of spices. Our Sada Chai is grown at an organic tea garden in Assam India. Assam is regarded as the genesis of Indian tea and is the largest tea growing region in the world.
Sada Chai Leaf Grade
This is a CTC leaf grade which stands for 'Cut, Tear, Curl', a process that turns tea leaves into small pellets. CTC is the most common tea grade used in India to make chai as it is very conducive to boiling.
We recommend adding a spice or herb of your choice and experimenting with different combinations. Some spices we enjoy: cloves, cardamom, ginger, black pepper, saffron and cinnamon.
The Tao of Tea
Like the Tao, the art of tea is universal. We began our work in 1997 to be a connecting thread for tea culture. Practicing the art on a daily basis in our teahouses in Portland, Oregon, we are a group of tea enthusiasts from different tea cultures. We travel, learn, take delight and seek to offer pure leaf teas with great flavor, artistry and soul. Our reward comes through actions that help people's lives, sustain the art of tea and promise a healthy environment.
Brewing Sada Chai
Bring water to boil, add one level teaspoon of leaf per 8 ounces of water and let boil for two minutes. Add milk (or non-dairy substitute) in a 1/4th milk to water ratio and bring to boil again. Strain and sweeten to taste.
100% organic black tea leaves.
I've been using Tao of Tea's Sada Chai for years to make homemade chai and highly recommend it. This is a black tea that is strong enough to balance the spices and milk, and can be boiled without becoming bitter. It doesn't contain any spices. I use freshly ground spices for each batch (Frontier's bulk spices are a good value). This tea makes an authentic cup of chai. I was thrilled to discover iHerb carries it now.

I am able to make authentic strong Indian chai. I like the box. I am able to re-use them for storage.

I don't use this tea as a base for chai, because my chai mix is never as good as Rishi Tea's Masala Chai. This tea is as bold as any of the breakfast tea's I've tasted, but it has no bitterness and has a great, malty flavor. It tastes good black, but I like it better with a little almond or coconut milk. (Cow and Soy milk block the body's ability to absorb tea antioxidants.) I don't like sweet tea, and this one tastes great without any sweetener.
